A Requiem for Warrick Brown, A New Life for Gary Dourdan
The season finale of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation was also the farewell episode for actor Gary Dourdan who plays ‘Warrick Brown’ in the long running CBS series. Though no one would know until the 9th season whether ‘Warrick Brown’ lives or dies (he was shot in the head more than once), Gary Dourdan, the actor, has dropped out of the show because the actor and CBS could not come to terms on a contract.
When Gary Dourdan was arrested last month on suspicion of possession, the episode that was aired last night was already filmed. The cast and crew, including the producers and CBS already knew what was going to happen. Whispers have already surfaced in the blogosphere about Dourdan’s exit and of course, it became ‘official’ when CBS confirmed though its own news network that ‘Warrick Brown’ will not be returning next season.
For actor Gary Dourdan, it has been reported that he is to play Thin Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott, on a biographical film on the latter’s life based on the book written by Lynott’s mother Philomena entitled ‘My Boy.’
Rolling Stones quoted Philomena saying that she wrote the book because “I’m tired of picking up magazines and reading, ‘Phil Lynott: rock star who died of the drugs,’” she says. “I’d like him to be remembered as a wonderful son, a kind and gentle soul, a great musician, poet, songwriter, lyricist. That’s ‘mother’ talking, but I know he was great. That’s why the fans are still there, and that’s why they wanted him honored.”
Knowing this tidbit of information, the question, ‘was the April 28, 2008 arrest of Gary Dourdan in Palm Springs, California for suspicion of drug possession staged as part of the publicity for the upcoming movie about Phil Lynott?
Of course, Dourdan is not a teenybopper whose ‘clean image’ has to be nurtured like Miley Cyrus. Yet, in the same token that Miley Cyrus’ little scandal seemed so trite and looked staged right now after she released her first album, asking Gary Dourdan and his PR the same question seem appropriate.
